As a 5’3 shorty, I wear heels whenever I have the chance. Us short girls need that little boost and who doesn’t love an extra couple inches of confidence? While I definitely believe the more you wear heels, the more your feet get used to them (beauty is pain, right?) I also have found a couple hacks for reducing pain in your feet from wearing those five inch babes.
BEFORE: Buy the Right Shoes
Not all heels are created equal; some will make your feet feel like they are going to fall off and others will make you feel on top of the world for hours. When buying your heels, factor in the following:
- The thicker the heel, the better: It will be a sad, sad day when the block heel trend dies. And to be honest, I am not sure if I am going to care if it dies. Block heels are INFINITELY more comfortable and easier to walk in. Wedges are of course even more comfortable. If you know you will be on your feet for a length time, incorporate a wedge or a thick block heel.
- Find a balance in height: I love wearing nice and tall heels, but they also put much more strain on your foot. Rather than reaching for a five inch pair, find a healthy medium and grab a three or three-and-a-half inch heel. These will still give you some height but the angle of the shoe will save your foot so much pain.
- Work the illusions: Be strategic with the color and shape of your heels to add the illusion of taller heels and longer legs, while still sticking with a shorter heel height. Nude heels are fabulous for elongating your legs. Also, work the lace-up trend while it is still around. The lace up draws the eye up your angle to make your legs look even longer.
- Pay attention to seems: Sometime the most painful part about wearing heels comes from rough seems. When shopping for heels, run your fingers across the seems on the inside of the shoe to see if they feel smooth and soft. Pay extra close attention to the seems closest to your toes, since gravity will push more weight towards those seems. If there is a strap on your heel, make sure it feels smooth and flexible.
DURING: Pack the Right Things in Your Bag
You know that feeling where you realize you wore the wrong shoes and you are just going to be doomed for the night? There is still a way to save your feet! Keep a bottle of Sole Serum in your handbag for emergency heel pain reduced. This serum is all-natural, made of essential oils that help reduce the soreness in your feet. It is magic and so easy to bring with you on-the-go.
AFTER: Treat Your Feet
Prevent that heel hangover by giving your feet some love when you get home. Sure, sometimes after a long day or night in heels, you don’t even want to wash your face, so you especially don’t want to spend time on your feet, but you will be thankful the next day! When you get home, soak your feet in hot water and a splash of Epsom salts to reduce the inflammation. Spend just five minutes if that’s all you have in you! Better yet, brush your teeth and use a makeup wipe while you sit there soaking. Then you have only have to spare the time it takes to fill up the bath or a bucket!
