First Step in my Makeup Routine: Primer
It’s so important to start off your routine with a good primer! I love First Aid Beauty’s Coconut Skin Smoothie Primer that hydrates my skin and gives it just a tiny bit of a tinted glow — and it’s clean! A good moisturizer can also serve as an effective primer, like Clinique’s Moisture Surge which is so hydrating and leaves such a clean, smooth base.
Second Step in my Makeup Routine: Foundation + Concealer
Now that my skin is prepped and ready, I first look for areas that might need a bit of extra help with coverage: pimples, dark marks left from pimples, redness, etc. and I dot a tiny bit of my Tarte Shape Tape Concealer right on top. For this step, I use a color that matches my skin tone — not a lighter concealer! I then dampen my beauty blender dupe sponge, wring out the water (so it is fluffy, but not wet) and lightly blend out my tiny dots of cover-up.
Next, I apply my foundation right on top! For everyday wear, I love my BareMinerals BAREPRO foundation. It is perfectly buildable and can provide full-coverage, but also looks natural! On days where I have events in the evening or fun plans ahead, I splurge and wear my Estee Lauder Double Wear — it is the best foundation I’ve ever worn, but a little pricier. Both of these foundations are absolutely fantastic though, especially if you have normal or oily skin. I pump out a bit of foundation, tap it around my face, and again use the damp beauty blender to blend the foundation in.
TIP: When using a beauty blender, always be sure to bounce the sponge and tap-tap-tap your concealer or foundation to spread it — don’t wipe with your sponge. Tapping or bouncing it will help set your foundation or concealer and it will stay so much longer!
The next step is to add under-eye concealer. For this part, I use my Tarte Shape Tape in a shade a few lighter than my foundation to really brighten my under-eye! I put a few dabs of concealer in a triangle shape under my eye and then blend it out with my damp beauty blender. It’s okay if it looks strange at this step! Once you put a powder on top, it will mellow out the brightness of the under-eye concealer.
The last step is to pat a tiny bit of powder foundation all over your face to set the liquid foundation and concealer. I love my BareMinerals Mineral Veil Finishing Powder.
Second Step in my Makeup Routine: Bronzer and Brush
My favorite step in the process is shaping my face and adding color with bronzer and blush — it makes all the difference! I am in love with my BareMinerals Invisible Bronze Bronzer, which is currently over half off! It’s such a good bronzer that is a perfect shade of brown, blends so easily, and gives you a bit of a glow with its hint of shimmer. I use this Ecotools brush to dust the bronzer in the hollows of my cheeks, on the top of my forehead, on the sides of my nose, and just under my jawline. If I want more of an all-around bronzed look, I love dusting my BareMinerals All-Over Bronzer.
The next step is to add blush to the apples of my cheeks. I’ve been using Clinique’s Blush in Mocha for years and love it! I also love Tarte’s Amazonian Clay Blush. I use this Ecotools blush brush.
Third Step in my Makeup Routine: Eye Liner and Mascara
Next up are the eyes! I love to do a simple, subtle cat-eye with liquid eyeliner and Stila’s Stay All Day is my go-to. The pen is really easy to control and it truly does stay all-day.
TIP: First, make your wing, and start from your outer corn and flip the pen outwards (and always start small). Then, switch how you’re holding the pen and move in from your wing towards the inside of eye. It’ll be so much easier!
Onto the lashes! First, I use L’Oreal’s Voluminous Lash Primer to really help lengthen my lashes and create a fuller look. Once the primer has had a chance to dry, I use just a coat or two of Lancome Monsieur Big Mascara, which is incredible! It’s absolutely one of the best mascaras I’ve ever used. If you’re looking for a more affordable option, I also love L’Oreal’s Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara.
TIP: When putting mascara on, slow your movement as you get to the top of your lashes; it’ll help lengthen your lashes!
Fourth Step in my Makeup Routine: Eye Shadow
I know it might sound weird doing my eye shadow after my liquid eyeliner, but I love reversing the order for a few reasons. 1. Liquid eyeliner is hard and there is nothing worse than perfecting your eyeshadow and then messing up your eyeliner on top and having to start all over. 2. My everyday eyeshadow look is very simple. I like using simple nudes and browns and lightly going over my eyeliner to give it a bit more natural of a look.
I love Tarte’s Make Magic Happen Palette. I use the lighter shades on my lid and darker shades on my crease. This Ecotools set has a few great brushes and is really similar to what I use.
Fifth Step in my Makeup Routine: Eyebrows
For my brows, I fill them in with NYX’s Fill and Flush — and it’s absolutely the best! The shape of the pencil is wider like an eyebrow brush but it’s so much easier to use.
To make sure my brows still have a more natural look, I use a tinted eyebrow gel so the border of my eyebrow is natural and not too shaped. I love Benefit’s Gimme Brow, or for a more affordable option, I love NYX’s Tinted Brow Mascara.
TIP: When filling in your eyebrows, use little strokes to mimic the look of hairs for a more natural look.
Sixth Step in my Makeup Routine: Highlighter
I love to add just a tiny bit of highlighter to my everyday makeup look. I love Tarte’s Amazonian Clay Highlighter in Exposed and use this Elf brush to lightly dust highlighter on my cheekbones and I use this eyeshadow brush to dust it just underneath my eyebrow, a trick that helps lift your eyes, and on the inside of my eyes to brighten them.
Seventh Step in my Makeup Routine: Lips
To complete the whole look, I love a little something on my lips. For an everyday look, I love a simple balm or subtle gloss. Fresh’s Sugar Lip Treatment is one of my favorite tinted balms that also helps to hydrate and smooth my lips. Fig is my favorite darker color! For a glossy everyday nude, I love NYX’s Butter Gloss in Madeline.
Eighth Step in my Makeup Routine: Setting Spray
And very last, it’s time to set everything! I use Too Faced’s 3-in-1 Hangover Setting Spray which smells amazing and really helps keep everything in-tact all day long. The bottle also lasts forever and it’s absolutely worth the price.
