I am not the type of person who can sit still with her skin care routine. I LOVE trying new things and experimenting with different brands and products! But I also understand the importance of not switching up your routine too much. It’s critical to give products some time to really make a difference on your skin. So, I do my best to stay consistent with some products and then switch up others after giving them a fair chance.
If you compare this skincare routine with my previous one I shared with you in the spring, you will see a lot of overlapping products, but also some new and noteworthy finds! Two things that aren’t shown in here but are a products I use consistently are my dermatologist-prescribed products. If you are using a prescription product, it definitely fits well into this routine, too! I put it on right after toning. Hope this helps and provides a bit of skincare inspiration! Follow along as I go step by step!
Pre-Cleansing
Pre-cleansing was a totally new thing to me just months ago. Already having oily skin, I did not want to slather more oil on my face? But pre-cleansing helps to pull dirt out more effectively so you really get a deep cleanse. How many times have you washed your face, patted dry your skin, and STILL found makeup on your towel? Pre-cleaning helps prevent that! I LOVE this Dermalogica Pre-Cleansing Oil. I also have been trying the Dermaloica Pre-Cleansing Balm, which comes out like a paste and melts into oil on your skin (which is totally fun!). The little mitt pictured above came with the balm and I LOVE it! It feels like a ย facial on your skin. For the oil and the balm, I have been using travel sizes and they last forever! So once they are finally gone, I have total confidence that buying the full size version will be worth my money!
Cleansing
I LOVE using my Clarisonic Mia to get a really deep and thorough sonic cleanse. I have used a Clarisonic for years and I am such a huge believer in it! It really helps to prevent breakouts and my skin feels so smooth and soft when I use it consistently. Lately, I have been using two new heads for it: the Acne Cleansing Brush Head and the Deep Pore Brush head. They both are AMAZING! Previously, I used the regular brush head, and that definitely did the job, but these new ones give my Clarisonic that extra power to really deep cleanse my skin. I also have been seeing the importance of switching out your brush head every couple of months. It is so much more powerful with a new cleansing brush. Plus, using the Clarisonic Pore & Blemish Clearing Gel has made this combination the ultimate power trio! Couldn’t recommend it more! (And if you’re interested in getting your own, use the code HERCAMPUS for 15% off ๐ )
After cleansing, I use the Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant. It acts like a very mild exfoliator – so mild that you can in fact use it daily (per the name!). However, since I am also using a Clarisonic which gives me that thorough, sonic cleanse, I use this every other day and see the same results, plus then the bottle lasts longer. I LOVE all Dermalogica products. They are absolutely worth the money!
Toning
I finally caved. After reading so many amazing reviews on the cult-favorite Thayer’s Witch Hazel with Rose Petal toner, I finally grabbed it and I am so thrilled I did! It really helps with balancing your skin tone and preventing breakouts. It’s such an easy and impactful step on your skin care routine, especially for $10!
Since I love Dermalogica so much, I really wanted to test one of their toners. Their Clear Start skincare line is much more budget-friendly, so I tried out this All Over Toner and have loved it. It has no added fragrances, but the natural products in it give it such a luxurious and scent! It also helps calm your skin and is so gentle.
You definitely don’t need to use both toners, but I wanted to share both of them with you for your knowledge! ๐
Treating + Preventing
As I mentioned above, this is the time in my skin care routine where I throw in my prescribed products, as well. Currently, I switch off between an acne-preventing product and Retin-A. I LOVE Retin-A and I am SO thrilled I started using it. It is great for anti-aging and acne prevention. Be warned – it is pretty drying, so that’s why I only use it every other day. I also don’t want my skin to get too tolerant to it since it is SO powerful. If you’re interested, talk to your dermatologist about it. I love it!
Aside from my prescribed products, I also use products for acne treatment/prevention and anti-aging.
For acne treatment/prevention, I love this Clinique Acne Solutions Clinical Clearing Gel. You can use it all over your face or on specifics spots, depending on your need.
For anti-aging, I love the two products pictured above! Theย Estรฉe Lauder Advanced Night Repairย serum has lasted as a cult favorite for a reason. It is amazing. It tightens your skin and gives it a gorgeous glow. I also noticed it helping with balancing my skin tone and preventing acne – double win! It is a bit pricey, so I only use it two times a week or so.
If that is a bit pricey for you, lately I have also been trying the Farmacy Invisible Oil which is a root-cell anti-aging serum and it is all natural, which I LOVE! It also gives that gorgeous glow and skin-tone balancing results for only $65 – and the bottle lasts such a long time. The product is amazing, soaks in quickly and doesn’t leave a sticky residue. Definitely recommend, especially if you are new to starting your anti-aging skincare routine (like me!) since it is so gentle.
Hydrating
If you have oily skin, I definitely recommend a gel moisturizer. It soaks into your skin quickly and gives you the hydration your skin needs without adding extra oil. I love both of these options! I have been using the Clinique Moisture Surge gel lotion for YEARS! It is amazing! I recently tried out the Ulta Beauty Collection Waterfull Gel Cream Moisturizer and I love this one, as well! It is so calming on your skin – and only $20!
Finally – eye cream time! I have never noticed eye cream to really make that big of a difference – until I find this product! Since I love the Estรฉe Lauder anti-aging serum, I figured it was only appropriate to try their Advanced Night Eye Repair Synchronized Complex II gel. You can FEEL the luxury on your eyes. Do you have any other eye creams you’d recommend? Drop them below!
Extras
I LOVE a good face mask or any other type of added fun in my skincare routine! Below are some of my favorites!
This New York Biology Dead Sea Mud Mask ROCKS. I am not entirely sure how I found it way-back-when, because it isn’t sold in beauty stores or at Target (my usual culprits). I’ve only ever found it on Amazon, but it is a total gem and SO budget-friendly. When I first started using it, I wasn’t entirely sure how I felt about it. A lot of skin-clearing face masks give you a tingling or tightening sensation that makes you feel like it is working and this one doesn’t. But once I started using it a couple of times, I realized that didn’t matter – this stuff WORKS! Totally recommend it. I use it two times a week and it helps so much.
These Patchology Flashpatch Rejuvenating Eye Gels are amazing! I save them for times where I have big events, and they take away all of the puffiness and bags that sit under my tired eyes.
I recently started trying this Sunday Riley Saturn Sulfur Acne Treatment Mask and it is such a unique product! The instructions say to leave it on for ten minutes and then wash off or if you want more intense results (so naturally I skip over the beginning of the instructions and focus on this) you can leave it on overnight. I leave it on overnight once a week and it really works to zap those zits. I love this product and if you have more sensitive skin, try out the ten minute version. The sulfur in it does wonders!
Phewf – finally to the end! I know that was a lot, but I hope you find it helpful! The best part about creating your own skin care routine is that it doesn’t need to be the same as anyone else’s. Use what works for you and put in as many steps as you’d like. Hope this provides some inspiration for you to get started with your own new routine this fall. XO!
