I could shop for skin care products all day long. If you take me in to an aisle lined with lotions, serums, cleansers, and oils, good luck getting me back out. Whether I’m looking for tone-correcting magic or an acne-serum to clear it all up, I am always on the hunt for a new product to try.
I have never had wonderful skin, so I am constantly on the lookout for that life-saving jar of greatness. While I have never found anything to cure every skin care problem that exists (and if you have, let me know, and let the world know), but I have found so many products that help with various skin conditions and I am SO excited to share them today!
The two biggest things I am looking to address with my skin care products are acne and uneven skin tones. I have tried a million and one products, but these are the ones that currently have earned a spot in my routine!
First, here are the products I use to cleanse my skin:
Burt’s Bees Cleansing Oil: I had no idea oil was a step to cleansing your face until I got my first facial at Ulta’s Dermologica bar recently and the facial began with an oil to pull grime out of your pores. It felt so amazing and like a massage for your face! The Dermologica cleansing oil is a bit pricey, so I wanted to try a less-expensive alternative to start and read great reviews on Burt’s Bees cleansing oil. So far, I have loved it! It has a great smell and I love that it includes coconut and argan oils. Since it says it is for normal to dry skin, I don’t use it every day, having naturally oily skin, but it is great for every other day. I will keep you updated as I keep using it!
Pacifica Kale Detox Cleanser: I have recently been using this product and I really like how fresh it makes your face feel. The best part comes from the fact that it is paraben-free, sulfate-free, and all-natural. If you have oily and acne-prone skin, this is a great option! I also have use Biore Charcoal Cleanser (not pictured) and I LOVE how it tingles your skin and makes it feel cool.
Lancome Exfoliance Radiance: The reviews on this exfoliating gel are RIDICULOUS. I am an avid review-reader, and people RAVE about this product! I picked it up recently and so far, I’ve loved it! Previously, I was using the St. Ives Apricot Scrub, and the woman who did my facial told me never to let it touch my face again because it is too harsh. The Lancome exfoliant is really gentle and I love it. I’ll keep you updated on this one too!
Clarisonic Mia: The Clarisonic is the holy grail of skin care. I notice a HUGE difference when I use it versus when I don’t. It is amazing and in my opinion, nothing cleans your skin better. It is pricey but DEFINITELY worth it.
I try not to use makeup wipes all that often, but sometimes it just isn’t in me to do the full cleansing routine… Insert: Makeup wipes. I love these two options, but doing the full cleansing routine is always better!
Neutrogena Pink Grapefruit Cleansing Wipes: These have a great smell and really grab all the dirt off your face!
Burt’s Bees Cleansing Wipes: These have a white tea extract (a very strong antioxidant) which is said to help protect your skin from pollutants and environmental stress.
I am super excited to do a whole post on face masks in the near future, so I am not going to list all of my favorite face masks, but here is a Dead Sea Mud Mask that I have found and love! Your skin feels so smooth after just one use. However, I will reveal my FAVORITE face mask in an upcoming post, and that one is just $6!
In high school, I went to a dermatologist and for a while and use the serum they gave me. However, over time, I think my skin has just grown immune to it! So, I decided to try out some other non-prescribed products, since my skin isn’t as bad as it was in high school. Here are some treatments I have loved!
Clinique Acne Solutions Clearing Gel: I love all-things-Clinique. I am a huge believer in their products and this clearing gel does not disappoint. It isn’t too drying and a little goes a long way. Plus, it soaks right in so you can easily use in the morning and your makeup doesn’t stick to it.
Tea Tree Oil: This treatment is 100% pure tea tree oil, so it feels great not putting a concoction of chemicals on your face. It is a wonderful, antibacterial spot treatment but it can be drying, so use it sparingly.
Burt’s Bees Blemish Stick: This is a great spot treatment for when I am traveling! It is a mixture of tea tree oil and other oils. I don’t think it is as effective as pure tea tree oil, but it is much easier for when you are on-the-go.
I used to be horrible about moisturizing my skin, since I already had oily skin. If it wasn’t dry, why would I need lotion? However, since then, I have learned much more about the importance of consistently moisturizing. Lotions and oils actually help regulate your oil production and it keeps your skin bright and healthy. Without lotions, your skin might produce too much oil to make up for it the lack of moisturizing, when then causes breakouts. Here are some of my favorite lotions I have found:
Clinique Moisture Surge: I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: I love Clinique! This lotion is so moisturizing but also absorbs so quickly and doesn’t leave your face greasy at all. I use it as a primer for makeup too because it leaves your skin smoother than anything I have ever tried.
Olay Luminous Tone Perfecting Cream: This is a lotion I just recently started trying after reading amazing reviews on it! I am trying to even out my skin tone, so I had to give this a go! I will keep you all updated on the results!
Nourish Oil-Free Antioxidant Facial Moisturizer: This lotion is from Trader Joe’s (yes, you read that right) and it is a wonderful, basic moisturizer! It does leave your face a tiny bit greasy, so I only use it at night. But the price is amazing!
Enrich Moisturizing Face Lotion with SPF: This is also from Trader Joe’s (went on a beauty shopping spree one day– who knew their products were so great?) and it is amazing, especially for the price! It is really creamy and absorbs so quickly considering it has SPF in it.
Oils have shocked me. There is no other product that has helped my acne more than facial oils. How does that make sense? (Insert dermatologist comments here. Or read this, this, and this). I LOVE these two oils and definitely recommend them, even for people with oily skin and acne.
Bio-Oil: I started using this oil when I was trying to get rid of acne scars and I definitely saw that over time, they started to lighten up. However, people need to remember that acne scars don’t go away over night. It requires consistent use of a product.
Tarte Maracuja Oil: I am SO impressed by this product and SO disappointed in myself. I had this oil sitting in my cabinet for months before I decided to actually use it. I got it as a free sample along with a purchase a while ago and then completely forgot about it. However, I started using it recently and it is a skin care GAME CHANGER. This stuff is magic. My acne is so much better, my skin is smoother, AND I started using it on my eyelashes and I’ve already noticed a major difference. Also, thanks to Ulta’s 21 Days of Beauty sale event, this is ON SALE (and that rarely happens!). You can buy it here!
There are so many chapsticks and balms out there, but these two definitely stand out!
C.O Bigelow Rose Salve: No other lip balm you will ever put on will taste better. Seriously. And it is wonderful for cuticles and more.
Kiehl’s Lip Balm: This absorbs so quickly and your lips are immediately smoother!
I hope you enjoyed this little skin care roundup! Have you tried and loved any of these products? What are your other favorites?
